seminar topic-Purpose and Functions- IRS
Definition:
According to Hartler information retrieval system is a device interposed between a potential user of information and the information collection itself for a given information problem. The purpose of the system is to capture wanted items and to filterout unwanted items.
Purpose
Information retrieval system aims at collecting and organizing information in one or more subject areas in order to provide it to the user as soon as asked for. Belkin presents the following situation which clearly reflects the purpose of information retrieval systems:
1. A writer presents a set of ideas in a document using a set of concepts
2. Somewhere there will be some users who require the ideas but may not be able to identify those. In other words, there will be some persons who lack the ideas put forward bys the author in his/her work.
3. Information retrieval systems serve to match the writer’s ideas expressed in the document with the users requirements or demands for those.
Functions
An information retrieval system deals with various sources of information on the one hand and users requirements on the other. It must:
· analyze the contents of the sources of information as well as the users queries, and then
· match these to retrieve those items that are relevant.
The major functions of an inform action retrieval system can be listed as follows:
1 to identify the information (sources) relevant to the areas of interest of the target users community
2 to analyze the contents of the sources (documents)
3 to represent the contents of the analyzed sources in a way that will be suitable for matching users queries
4 to analyze users queries and to represent them in a form that will be suitable for matching with the database
5 to match the search statement with the stored database
6 to retrieve the information that is relevant, and
7 to make necessary adjustments in the system based on feedback from the users.

comparison of information structures-Shivaprakash
The major similarities and differences between 'Major fuction of information service' and 'Simple flow of retrieval process' are as follows::
The above two structure shows retrieval of an information
The above two structure shows retrieval of an information
- The similarities between these two structures are
Input and output
Representation
Indexing of operation
- In simple flow retrieval, we find 'query and comparison' which is not in major fuctions of information service structure

Seminar on " Law of Symmetry"
| Basic laws: 1.Law if interpretation 2.Law of impartiality 3.Law of symmetry 4.Law of parsimony 5.Law of local veriation 6. Law of osmosis Definition : Law of symmetry : The principle that of two entities or situations whish admit of being regarded as symmetrical counterparts of each other, if one of them is given weight in some context, the other too should be given a corresponding weight. Examples: 1. In cc, ranganathan allocated greater ordinal value to Roman caps that Indo-Arabic numerals. Later Roman small letters were used to representing posteriorizing common isolate. These were given lesser ordinal value that Indo-Arabic numerals, which led to the satisfaction of the law of symmetry. 2. Ranganathan adopted digits 9, z and Z as empty digits for the extrapolation of isolate in an array. The law of symmetry suggested for a provision to interpolation of isolation in an array. This has given satisfaction to the law. 3. The provision of zone has provided for extrapolation at the end of on array. The law of symmetry also emphasized the making of a provisions for extrapolation at the beginning of an array. This became possible due to the use of digit '0' (zero) as an empty digit. LEISURE
Hai friend
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when we pass,
Where sqirrels hide their nuts in grass.
No time to see, in broad daylight,
Streams full of stars, like stars at night.
No time to turn at Beauty's glance,
And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can
Enrich that smile her eyes began.
A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.

Today in this blog, I am going to tell you a poem that tells us the importance of "LEISURE" in this busy concrete world
What is this life if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
No time to stand beneath the boughs
And stare as long as sheep or cows.
No time to see, when we pass,
Where sqirrels hide their nuts in grass.

And watch her feet, how they can dance.
No time to wait till her mouth can

A poor life this if, full of care,
We have no time to stand and stare.
